Mary Shield of Peace began as a private devotion given by the Holy Spirit in 2015. After the prayer was written in 2021, the devotion grew quietly and bore fruit in various Church ministries. In 2023, artist Elizabeth Zelasko was commissioned to paint the image, and a prayer card was made. The devotion became public in August 2024 when Most Rev. Gerald L. Vincke, Bishop of Salina, granted it his Nihil Obstat. Then on October 1, 2025, during the General Audience in Rome, Bishop Vincke presented His Holiness Pope Leo XIV with Mary Shield of Peace prayer cards in six different languages. Today the prayer and accompanying image continue to guide the faithful to the peace of Christ through the protection of His mother, Mary Shield of Peace.
