  August 2016
Dear Friend of St. Isidore's,
August has come with many blessings, our favorite being the return of students.  Our hearts are filled and inspired by the excitement in each freshman's eyes, as well as by the joy of each of our returning students as they share their summer adventures with us.
We are excited to have a calendar that is filled with classes, activities and retreats and are looking forward to a very busy semester.  We ask that you keep all of us and our students in your prayers as we start our school year, and please know that you will be in ours.

Welcome Back BBQ
Over 300 students filled Newman Hall and the St. Isidore's garden during this year's Welcome Back BBQ.  Each year, the Student Leadership Team organizes a BBQ for all of the students to attend.  This is a wonderful time for friends to reconnect after they have been gone for the summer, a chance to make new friends and for freshmen and other new faces to have a chance to meet other students and start relationships that will hopefully last a lifetime.  "This year's BBQ had a fantastic turnout.  It was so fun to reconnect with everyone and it was especially nice to have the IHM sisters come. I was also encouraged to see how our community is starting to grow so early on in the year."  reflected Maureen Graham, junior in dietetics from Lenexa, KS.
Pastoral Ministry Interns
Pictured L to R:  Alex Blechle, Alex Lutz and Meg Eilert
Last semester, St. Isidore's started a Pastoral Ministry Intern Program.  This program allows students the opportunity to work with the staff and the chance to lead several of the activities that are offered.  This helps the staff manage the wide variety of activities that are offered at St. Isidore's as well as helps prepare them to have an active role in their own parishes once they leave KSU.
"St. Isidore's has given me a foundation, a solid place when I am away from home.  It has allowed me to mature and grow in my faith and in all aspects of my life," expressed Alex Lutz.  Alex Lutz is a Junior in Construction Science from Andover, KS and is new to the the Pastoral Minister Program this year.  He is excited to lead the men's group, organize the Prayer and Action weekend and assist with several other retreats throughout the year.
Alex Blechle, a Senior studying Theological Research at Manhattan Christian College, from Washington, Missouri is serving his second year as a Pastoral Minister Intern.  "Last year, I really appreciated being mentored by Nate and Michaela and getting acquainted with St. Isidore's.  This semester, I look forward to using my gifts, talents and education to help students grow in their faith."  Alex with be assisting with RCIA, teaching a class on apologetics, and coordinating the student-lead bible studies.
"St. Isidore's has been my home away from home.  A place where I can be fully human by practicing the truth that is Catholicism.  I look forward to serving the community in any way I am needed and hope to be as generous as St. Isidore's has been to me," reflected Meg Eilert, a Junior in Secondary Education from Beloit, KS. This is Meg's first year in the Pastoral Ministry Intern program and she will be leading the women's group, teaching a class on happiness, and overseeing food preparation at many of the student events.
  Freshman Retreat

The theme this year for our Freshman Retreat was 'Resting in Christ.'  However, these students did anything but rest.  With nearly 100 freshmen attending the retreat, a record number, the students were open to movements of the holy spirit during talks, small group discussions and opportunity for the sacraments.  They were able to build foundational friendships that will endure the trials of college life.  We look forward to witnessing their growth in faith and friendships as they begin their time here at St. Isidore's.
"I'm so glad I had the opportunity to attend this retreat - I was able to meet the fantastic members of St. Isidore's and especially become friends with other freshmen.  The retreat provided great insight on how to practice my faith in college and ways to be an example of the Catholic faith on campus," reflected freshman Megan Bates in Kinesiology /Pre-Med from Beloit, KS.
  Pathways Retreat
We are hosting our 23rd annual pathways retreat October 14th-16th. This is a special and unique opportunity for many of our students, to grow in their faith.  In order to keep the cost down for our students we would appreciate the prayerful and financial support of our Alumni, Parents and friends. The cost of the retreat is usually around $30 per retreatant and our goal is to keep the fee at a similar level this year. This retreat has a large impact on on not only the retreatants but on the St. Isidore's student community as a whole.
